Michael Ziv-Kenet is a Ph.D. student at the Political Science Department at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He’s interested in cities and democratic theory, particularly political representation in cities and the normative aspects of cities’ arrogance regarding democratic legitimacy. In his research, he examines representative claims made by urban political actors to identify their understanding of the relations between the ‘city,’ urban government, and society, and as a political action of creating and recreating political constituencies. He is an activist passionate about urban regeneration, especially in Kiryat Yovel, the working-class neighborhood where he lives. Yuval constantly engages residents and state and local officials to promote equitable and sustainable urban regeneration processes. In addition, he is a TA at the Institute of Urban and Regional Planning’s seminar on urban renewal.
