2019-2020 | The Urban Clinic

2019-2020

The 2019-2020 Internship Course projects were as thematically and geographically diverse as the students participating in the cohort. Arch. Yasmin Abu Arafeh worked on identifying buildings for historic preservation in Abu Tor. Dialogue and conflict were recurring themes, while Tharaa Kirresh designed a placemaking course to address conflict and social fragmentation among students at Hebrew University, Gali Shaskin examined public spaces as areas that can reduce tension, in Jaffa, Tel Aviv. On the environmental side, Bar Rapaport examined ways to promote circular economies in small and medium businesses. Dana Keidar also focused on an environmental project and examined green study spaces on school rooftops. Jamal Abu Hana took a macro approach to spatial planning and explored planning open spaces in densely populated areas in Iksal, an Arab village in the North. Walkability, connectivity, and housing density internship projects reflected current changes and concerns in West Jerusalem. Avishai Abuhav, who was guided by Maya Tapeiro, an employee in the municipal planning department and former Clinic student, conducted a project on walkability in Ramot Alon. Avigail Heshkes, who works as a neighborhood planner, used the light rail expansion as a mechanism to explore denser housing and improve neighborhood connectivity. Hadas Tzin tied topics together in her assessment of health aspects in urban planning.
